When a mother cannot drive, everything waits for someone else to be free. Learning to drive gives you the freedom to handle these trips yourself and to act quickly in an emergency.

Many housewives tell us they put off learning for years: the children were small, there was no time, or they felt it was too late. It is not too late. Women of all ages learn with us, and a calm, unhurried approach makes all the difference.

Practical Tips

• Wear flat, thin-soled shoes; keep a pair in your bag if needed.
• Secure your dupatta or chador so it does not catch on the controls.
• Arrange childcare for lesson time so you can focus fully.
• Choose a regular time each day to build a routine.

Manual or Automatic?

Learn the car you will drive. If the family car is automatic, automatic lessons are the obvious choice and often the easiest start. If it is manual, learning manual means you can use it.

Handling Nerves

Honest Expectations

You will not become an expert overnight, and that is fine. Confidence takes practice. Many mothers choose the 20-day course so they have time to feel comfortable on the roads they will actually use.

Your First Lesson

Your first lesson starts in a calm place. Your instructor helps you adjust the seat and mirrors, explains each control and lets you sit with it before anything moves. When you are ready, you move off slowly, stop, and try again. There is no rush and no exam at the end; it is simply a first step. Many mothers say the hardest part was deciding to start.

Driving with children later

Once you are confident driving alone, carrying children brings new responsibilities: seat belts or child seats for every child, child locks on rear doors, and no distractions while driving. Start with short, familiar trips before longer journeys, and choose quieter times of day for your first school runs.

Practising between lessons

If a licensed family member can sit with you, short practice drives on quiet roads help skills settle. Always follow your instructor's advice on when you are ready, and check that you meet the legal requirements for practising before your licence.
